Bedroom Makeover with Essential Teal Paint

I love color and have to really hold back on wanting to repaint and makeover every room as I scroll through my Pinterest feed. For example, I got the makeover bug a couple of weeks ago when I caught a glimpse of this photo that someone had pinned to their board:

It is featuring Essential Teal paint color from Behr's 2015 Paint Color Trends Deep Dreams collection. We have been in our house for two and a half years and have repainted four of the rooms, but I just hadn't been able to decide the look and feel I wanted for our room. As soon as I saw the photo, I new exactly what I wanted to do for our room.

We have a small room with dark furniture, and I was concerned that a dark color may make it feel enclosed. So, I was trying to envision the photo above if you cut it off just after the bed, and decided that it makes for a welcoming and inviting room that is not stuffy at all.

Since I knew cold weather was coming, and we would want to air out the house while painting, the pressure was on. Last weekend was the big paint job and I am really pleased with how it all turned out!

Before - Blah Beige

After - Exotic Essential Teal

I love it! As you can see, we have the textured walls that are a Colorado staple :)

With the dark walls and furniture, I definitely wanted crisp white for the duvet cover. I was just about to order this duvet cover online until I found this set is from Jessica McClintock at
TJ Maxx for only $50 (king or queen).

I also found green sheets at TJ Maxx to "pop" with the teal.

The next challenge was to find a throw that would tie in the teal and green in a  pattern I like. I found that Mizone Asha Quilted Reversible Throw to be perfect for this. It is available several places, but I found it for the lowest price at Overstock.

The final touch is this fun purple accent pillow that I just happened upon at Tuesday Morning. Gorgeous!

Burnt Orange, Dark Jeans, Brown Boots

Here is one of my favorite casual and cozy outfits this winter.  It is still dressy enough for casual Friday's at work, but a great weekend outfit too!  I bought this sweater when I was pregnant with Gabriel and I wanted something that my belly could grow into...but that I could wear later.  This one I stitched close right at the sternum, so it is open at the top and bottom, but gives a little more coverage than my forest green version found here.

Tank Top - $8 (Target, on sale from $9)
Sweater - $30 (Spiegel)
Lee Jeans - $7 (T.J. Maxx, clearance)
Boots - $40 (Payless on sale)

Cozy Casual

It's still winter...although in Colorado today the snow is melting off in 60 degrees and sunshine.  It would be really easy when it is cold outside to throw on sweats or or yoga pants, but these pants are just as cozy.  They are navy blue cords by GAP, combined with a 100% cotton light sweater layered over a bright tangerine colored tank top.  Cozy, comfy, and casual (but not too casual!).

Sweater - $5 (ARC Thrift Shop)
Tank top - $4.50 (Target Clearance)
GAP cords - $4 (Goodwill)
Shoes - $30 (6 pm.com)

Entire Outfit - $43.50 :)

Fun Prints For Work or Play!

Even in winter...especially in winter...I like to wear color and fun prints.  Here's an example of a beautiful printed shirt in shades of purple (one of the colors of royalty!).  I live in Colorado, so we are fortunate to have many sunny days all through winter, but if it is looking drab outside I always choose to wear something like this to feel light and spring-like.  This look could easily be made more casual with jeans and some gray Converse (or purple, which I also have).

Layering Tank in Dark Purple - Target ($4.50 on clearance)
Light Gray Pants, Ann Taylor Loft - Goodwill ($5)
Printed Shirt, New With Tags from New York and Company - ARC Thrift Store ($6)
Gray Fabric Pumps - Payless ($15 after coupon)

Total of $30.50 for this look!!

Ahoy!

I am still a fan of nautical style, understated nautical style that is.  Here is a cute top I found at TJ Maxx (of course!).  Nautical navy and white stripes with a fun twist.  My in-laws gave me a gift card to TJ Maxx so it was $17, but for me it was free :)  I paired it with khaki pants and nude pumps for work.  Plus a beautiful reversible necklace from lia sophia.  Silver with white enamel on one side and navy blue enamel on the other.  LOVE!

Shirt - TJ Maxx ($17..free for me)
GAP Pants - Goodwill ($4)
Shoes - Payless ($15 after coupon)

Dark Teal and Red - A Lively Combo!

I LOVE color, just in case you had not noticed.  I especially am loving teal right now with green, yellow, orange, and even red!  Here is a fun dressy, yet casual look.  You could change the shoes out for more casual boots, or the jeans for dress pants for work.  White or khaki would be elegant!

Cardigan - Target Clearance ($5)
Shirt - Free from a friend closet clean-out
Jeans - Goodwill ($5)
Pumps - Payless (and they are comfortable! - $15 after coupon)

Go Red for Women

Today is the 10th anniversary of "Go Red for Women," a campaign by the American Heart Association to make more individuals aware that heart disease is the #1 killer of women.  My friend Rachel had a heart attack at 28 years old, one week after giving birth to her baby boy.

Read her story at the Huffington Post.

Also check out this short, entertaining, and informative video on the prominent heart attack symptoms women experience.

I shopped my closet again (too fun!) for a potential outfit to celebrate by wearing red today.  I am too cold at work right now to wear it so, I wore this red sweater instead.  If I were going out tonight instead of staying home with the family, this would definitely be an option!

Dress - Forever 21 ($20)
Cardigan (also here) - Target clearance ($5)
Black Patent Heels (also here) - Target clearance ($13)

Super cute outfit = $38
